Oscar’s Place Website Rebuild
Project
Oscar’s Place is a donkey rescue and sanctuary based in Hopland, California, dedicated to rehabilitating donkeys rescued from auctions and providing lifelong care for those in need. Since its founding in 2021, the organization has grown rapidly, building a passionate community of supporters while expanding its rescue and rehabilitation work.
With this growth came the need for a stronger digital presence. Oscar’s Place had recently completed a brand strategy that introduced a new logo, color palette, and visual system, but their website no longer reflected the strength of this updated identity. The existing site also presented opportunities to improve navigation, mobile responsiveness, and user engagement.
The redesign needed to support the organization’s continued growth by increasing donations while making it easier for supporters to sponsor donkeys, volunteer, apply for adoptions, and join the email community. Simultaneously, the site needed to better showcase the powerful stories of rescued donkeys that inspire supporters to get involved.
Solution
I designed a new website experience in Squarespace that brings Oscar’s Place’s refreshed brand identity to life while creating a clearer and more emotionally engaging user journey. The new design highlights the sanctuary’s mission through compelling imagery, storytelling, and dedicated spaces for individual donkey profiles that help supporters build personal connections with the animals they are helping to rescue.
Clear calls-to-action were strategically placed throughout the site to encourage key actions such as donating, sponsoring a donkey, volunteering, or applying for adoption. The navigation was simplified to ensure visitors can quickly find the information they need while guiding them toward meaningful ways to support the organization.
The site was also rebuilt with improved mobile responsiveness, accessibility standards, and search engine optimization to reach a wider audience. The Squarespace backend was designed to be flexible and easy for staff to manage, allowing the Oscar’s Place team to update donkey stories, share rescue updates, and grow their community without technical barriers.
